This year Vic Firth are bringing out a range of new and exciting products as well as some we’ve seen before made with a special piece of history in mind!
Vic Firth have a new drumstick named the hinged stick, Hinged stick is aimed at the educational market, especially young drummers. When you start to play drums, it’s not clear how you’re supposed the hold your drumsticks. The Vic Firth hinged stick helps new drummers master the correct position by putting the pivot point in the hand of the drummer at exactly the right place. This means the beginner drummer learns how to use the stick properly from the word go. These new drumsticks will help the drummer develop good habits and before long it’ll come naturally! From here, the drummer using the hinged drumsticks can progress into a different stick. The key is starting with the right drumstick… using the wrong stick can form bad habits that you’ll find hard to break and they’ll get in the way in the future! The hinged drumstick is available in a 5a and ST1… Ideal for pupils and new drummers.
After numerous requests, Vic Firth have now added long versions of the 55A, 8D and 55B models, available from early 2013.
Another new addition is the Titan drumstick. Vic Firth have been working on developing the Titan drumstick for years now and it’s finally here! They consider it to be the first carbon fibre drumstick that feels and plays like a wooden stick. Currently only available in a 5B but a 5A model is in the pipe line. The Vic Firth Titan carbon stick is extremely durable, possibly up to 10X more than the average wooden drumstick. Each Titan stick weighs and sounds the same. An exciting drumstick to look out for this year!
The timpani mallets and SD1 and SD2 drumsticks were the first models that Vic brought out 50 years ago. Because this year is the 50th anniversary of Vic Firth, they’ve reintroduced these models with the original branded logo, similar to how Vic did it all those years ago with a branding iron in his basement workshop. A cool idea!
Vic Firth ear plugs – Moving away from drumsticks and mallets, Vic firth are introducing a protecting ear plug like no other. Musicians tend to use traditional foam ear plugs but they don’t provide you with complete protection that you require… They will knock the sound down but dont do it uniformly, unlike the new Vic Firth ear plugs. The Vic Firth plugs act as though you’ve turned down the volume, but without loosing any quality. These ear plugs are ideal for all musicians and is the kind of product that young players should be using and getting into the habit of protecting their hearing from the very start!
