On Thursday this week I had the honour of meeting Rick Drumm who is the President of D’Addario, Rick has also headed Vic Firth, Remo and has a musical business track record second to none.
I received a telephone call from D’Addario UK’s Simon Turnbull asking if it would be possible to have a meeting with Rick at our new shop to discuss business and how everything is going with D’Addario’s products we sell, Evans, Pro Mark and HQ. To say I was excited was an understatement to sit with one of the biggest guys in the industry and listen to what he had to say.
It tells me something when the president of a company from New York would sit down with a customer and discuss business just shows how good Rick and D’addario are, this is why D’addario products are now one of our biggest product lines and growing at a great rate, a great company with great products, great prices and the best customer service.
We spoke in detail about my favourite brand of drum stick 'Pro mark’ and how the drum stick brand is now being totally researched and improved, its truly amazing that its getting even better than it already is, ok so I sound bias.
Rick was president for Vic Firth before his move to D’Addario when I met Rick back in 1999 at the Vic Firth head quarters in Maine USA, discussing Vic Firth. So lots of new Pro mark products arriving into our shop as we speak.
Rick and I discussed the manufacture of Evans drum heads which is out selling all other brands at this moment in time, I believe this is down to the quality, supply and price. When you see what goes into making an Evans drum head you appreciate the craftsmanship, time and research that is spent, it really is an art form. Rick also discuss how the new generation of drum head is now being created, very very interesting, I can talk to anybody that wants to listen to the manufacture of the new collar design of the Evans drum heads.
Another product line which D’Addario own is HQ which is the finest practice pads on the market, all these are being added to the website as we speak.
Take a look at the 'How its made’ video from Evans drum heads below and any questions about drum heads or tuning please feel free to call me any time…
Cheers A.
