Andy Anderson catches up with Keith Cadwallender from Hartlepool who recently bought one of the Premier Modern Classic drum kits. Keith has shared his thoughts on why he decided to buy the new British built drum set.
After seeing the Premier Modern Classic drums on the Premier website and being a fan for many years of the original Modern Classic snare drum I took the time out to go to Drum Shop UK to see them in the flesh and they looked stunning, being honest the looks had me as I found the finish to be top quality, the fittings and chrome work is beautiful! I was also advised that a certain top end sports car manufacturer works with Premier for finishing ideas. I wanted to try the kit before I made a decision so I decided to go to Drum Shop.
I have a few drum kits my favorite being my Craviotto drum kit and I must say that this kit is as good as my Craviotto, but with both kits having different benefits. The drums sound very full-bodied and warm yet cut through the musical situations, which I play. I part exchanged my Gretsch USA custom, which was fantastic but I just find the Premier Modern Classic better for that all round sound and it works in all the musical situations I play from the smaller gigs to the rock gigs, I keep the Craviotto locked up and bring her out on special occasions. I guess this is without doubt the best all round drum kit I have owned as it caters for most of my needs. I do own a Tama Warlord drum kit, which is very loud so that may have the edge if I want serious volume from a drum kit. I would never part with my Craviotto drum kit as it is simply a work of art but this Premier Modern Classic Drum kit is without doubt in the same league and will be a keeper.
The drum kit came with the Remo drumheads and they sound wonderful, if it isn’t broke don’t fix it, that’s my motto. The bass drum is fitted with a Remo Powerstroke 3 clear the drumhead which came as standard, the toms have Remo Ambassador coated on the tops and the bottoms are fitted with Ambassador clear. It’s really weird as I normally use a twin ply head on the toms but these single ply heads work at all tuning ranges.
I love the drum kit and its definitely one that I will be keeping ahold of.
There you go, nice and simple but very well put together. Thank you so much for your time Keith.
