"There is a reason you are here reading this. No artist, no musician seeks out what they already have. You're reading this because this is another step along the road of your journey in the art of drumming. Everyone's experience is different, but ultimately we are exploring ways to express and define ourselves through our music. The need for for an instrument that can rise to your demands and expectations is why you are here. And you are where you need to be."
Ronn Dunnett started making working with drums in 1978 and now is the most influential custom drumsmith alive, due to the fact that the components he produces end up on so many other manufacturers' drums. He creates some of the most popular and beautiful drums. Why has he become a drumsmith? Here's what he says:
"As a drummer, I was unsatisfied with the products that were available and began modifying other manufacturer's shells and hardware, doing refinishing, bearing edges etc. It became a labour of lust!
Half of an old saying goes "imitation is the most sincere form of flattery." The lesser known other half says "invention is the most sincere form of criticism." The existence of Dunnett Classic drums can attest to both of those adages."
By 1994 Ron has designed, developed and built several prototypes based on his own concepts, simple innovation and what he felt was lacking from existing products at that time. This includes the creation of the very well known titanium drum which also was the first titanium drum ever created. The result of all that work resulted in the perfection of Titanium and Stainless Steel snare drums which nowadays are played and used by some of the most influential drummers, producers and studio engineers.
"I want to point out the single most important element of any drum: your ears. It doesn't matter how great a snare drum is if you can't hear."
Dunnett Classic drums don't sound so good by chance. The sound has been meticulously engineered. Ronn has put years into research & development, but even that work has to come from an idea. Dunnett Classic Drums are crafted to the finest details and each drum can be described in four words: Architecture, Innovation, Value and Truth.
