Up-cycling is becoming more and more popular and with this trend no items are off limits, not even drums! We came across this first hand here at Drum Shop just last week, when one of our lovely customers, Michelle dropped into the shop with a view to purchasing a pre-loved cymbal stand. Now this is not an unusual occurrence here at Drum Shop, we get lots of customers purchasing pre-loved products and we are always keen to know what our customers are planning, so when we asked Michelle about the item we were pleasantly surprised by her response! Michelle went onto tell us that she wasn’t a drummer and wanted to use the pre-loved cymbal stand to mount a drum. She explained that she had up-cycled an old floor tom by fitting a lightbulb inside, turning it into a lamp but it was too low to the ground using the usual floor tom legs. She had come up with the idea of using a cymbal stand to create a tall standing lamp.
Intrigued at the idea of using drum gear in such an inventive way, one of our Sales Advisors, Darren helped Michelle search through the Mr Anderson’s Pre-Loved section here at Drum Shop and Darren was able to find just the right stand which fit nicely onto one of the floor tom brackets. Once pieced together, the light inside frequently changed colour and actually looked really cool! Maybe this should be our next venture, we are totally obsessed with how cool it looks and after researching further the possibilities of up-cycling drum or drum-cycling as we like to call it are absolutely endless.

After stumbling upon such a cool and unique way to re-use old drums, we started to research and discovered the coolest small business called, Rock Terrace. Rock Terrace take broken, unloved and unused drum kits and transform them into stunning bespoke interior pieces. Rock Terrace was founded in 2012, in the music room of musician, Sam Wheeler and since then Sam and Rock Terrace have never looked back! With some pretty impressive achievements, Rock Terrace were seen backstage at the Glastonbury Festival and not only that some pretty famous bums were most definitely on those drum seats! Founder Sam, is still a keen drummer and has most certainly found a way to keep those unwanted and unused drums alive and we love Rock Terrace all the more for it!

So we've most certainly learned this week that there are all sorts of used for drums, both conventional and unconventional and that you just never know what you are going to be asked across the counter at Drum Shop, one thing's for sure there’s never a dull moment!!
