Wow! We are so pleased to announce we were given the opportunity to accommodate this stunning Ludwig Classic Maple Kit! But that's not all, not only do you all have the chance to buy it, did we forget to mention it was Gregg Potter's?! EMMY Award winning Gregg Potter has provided us with his Buddy Rich annual memorial concert kit!
So, here it is...
The kit is rigged with durable 7-ply cross-laminated North American Maple wood shells to give it that unmistakable Ludwig sound! The Vintage Marine Pearl finish adds the touch of vintage class so reminiscent of the legend, Buddy Rich. The 45-degree bearing edge was personally hand sanded by craftsmen at Ludwig for an immaculate flat surface to enhance the shell's sustain and classic sound!
But seriously, we know the specs of this kit is not the only reason you are still reading this, so we'll get right to it! This kit is Gregg Potters personal kit for the annual concerts in memorial of Buddy Rich.
Buddy Rich, bearing the title of "the world's greatest drummer" and rightfully so, is a drummer who has been memorising audiences since as early the 1910's and 20's up until today and many years to come. In 1921 at just four years old, Rich became known as the child star, "Traps, the Drum Wonder" and went on to become the second-highest paid child star in the world, touring Australia at just age six.
After meeting and forming a relationship with the one and only Frank Sinatra in 1938 whilst in the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, in 1946 Sinatra provides financial backing for Rich to start his own band. Buddy Rich and his Big Band go on to have an outstanding career for the next 40 years, producing many successful albums, having shows broadcast on PBS TV, appearing on the cover of the very first Modern Drummer issue and even playing drums in an episode of The Muppet Show in '81. Unfortunately, Buddy Rich passed away in 1987 at the age of 69.
His legacy was carried on by his only daughter, Cathy Rich, alongside Gregg Potter and the Buddy Rich big band...
Gregg Potter is the EMMY award winning drummer of the new Buddy Rich Band, a 16-piece band of alumni who played with Buddy Rich himself! In 2017, he toured the world with Rich's daughter Cathy, who also sang with the band herself. This world tour included a sold out week at the prestigious Ronnie Scotts in the UK, where Rich recorded several albums. This Ludwig kit is the exact one used in the Buddy Rich Annual Memorial Concerts!
As well as being world renowned for his tribute to Rich, Gregg Potter has also done his bit to contribute to the music industry! He has shared the stage with Good Charlotte, LMFAO, Billy Squier etc, and has performed at the Milwaukee Summerfest, Warped Tour, NAMM and many, many more. As well as being a featured artist in Modern Drummer Magazine, Potter became a contributing writer for them and continues to tour, write and record, only furthering his own career whilst playing tribute to Buddy Rich!
And the best part of all - this kit is now for sale! Yes, thats right, you can click here to find out more and actually own this kit! Every Drumhead of the kit is signed by Gregg Potter and Cathy Rich and has the Buddy Rich Tribute printed onto it! But be quick, we don't expect to have this kit for very long!!
