Since founding in 1989, Mapex have achieved so much; distribution reaching over 30 countries, being selected as one of the best drum brands in the world, each of their numerous industry awards... As a way of paying tribute to Mapex's three whole decades of uncompromising dedication to craftsmanship, as well as every craftsman and supporting drummer, Mapex released just 300 limited edition drum sets and, a further, 600 limited edition snare drums. This 30th Anniversary project commemorates Mapex's motivation to explore limitless drum design possibilities within their pursuit of producing the ultimate acoustic experience. Mapex chose the most representative sound of Mapex drums in the 90's, their Orion Classic series, to be the inspiration behind their 30th Anniversary limited edition drum set's, so be prepared for timeless 90's feel, but with a touch of modern! Not to forget the snares, with their creation being a tribute to the Deep Forest walnut snare drum, another 90's baby, expect nothing but rich, dark tone...
In order to inherit the spirit of the Orion Classic, this is an all-maple kit, featuring 100% North American Maple wood shells. Just like the original Orion Classic series, the sound characteristics of these classic shells offer warmth presence and projection but with minium vibration transfer and maximum resonance! Thanks to Mapex's Design Lab, even the most demanding players are accommodated for. The double veneered 100% maple shells are constructed of a transparent flame maple innermost ply and a garnet flame maple outermost ply, based on another of Mapex's Design Lab's developments; the proprietary SONIClear™ Attenuation System (SAS) sonic effect scale, the composition of these shells qualifies as a SAS 2 designation for a clear and clean sound. Coming as a standard is the SONIClear Bearing Edge! This feature allows each drum head to sit completely level on the drums, this promotes ease of tuning, increased shell resonance and optimal tonal clarity. The anniversary kits also includes Sonic Saver Hoops, their inward flange and extra weight helps to focus and control the drum sounds, whilst also guiding the projection more "down" than "out", this takes the "vintage" tone to a whole new level! The straighter a floor tom leg's path to the floor, the more sound lost, with this information Mapex's Design Lab designed the static 90° legs which allow maximum resonance from the floor tom! Complimenting the legs is the Sonic Pedestal foot, this uses an internal cotter pin to prevent contact between the steel and the ground. By allowing the floor tom to "float" on the elevated "spring" of the rubber foot, any vibration transfer is eliminated and the resonance is maximised.
Just like the original Deep Forest series, the anniversary snare is made of the same natural finished 100% walnut plies to inherit the spirit of the Deep Forest Snare, as well as the sound dark, rich saturation characteristics. The Deep Forest snare wasn't widely admired for no reason, this throwback is ready to awaken every drummer's dream of a solid backbeat! Coming as a standard is the SONIClear Bearing Edge! This feature allows the drum heads to sit completely level on the drum, the better contact with the shell offers clearer pitch, effortless and consistent tuning, and a much wider tuning range. The anniversary snare also includes Sonic Saver Hoops, their inward flange and extra weight helps to focus and control the drum sounds, whilst also guiding the projection more "down" than "out", this takes the "vintage" tone to a whole new level! The Cylinder-Drive Strainer and Butt-End Adjuster ensure smooth operation, due to their self-lubricating bearing. "Micro-lock" technology is crucial to any adjustment dial, it provides much more precise control and prevents any snare wires from loosening during a performance. The snare wires are of course, Mapex's Puresound® Custom Series 16-Strand Wires! Medium gauge and evenly spaced, this snare wire offers a stunningly even balance between snare response and shell sound.
