Having first opened in Gateshead in 1991, by taking over a drum shop called 'Mike Lewis', Drum Shop started as just a second hand drum and percussion retailer and over time has become a long-standing business within the drumming community earning it's establishment and connections purely through the team's love and passion for drums. In 2011 we had to pack up and move to a huge new space after outgrowing our original shop in Pelaw. We are now based in Washington, click here to view our shop on 'Google Maps'.
Our striking logo, done by Kev Bambra, is hard to miss when arriving at Drum Shop. Although from the outside the shop appears to be small but stepping inside Drum Shop is like stepping inside the Doctor's 'TARDIS'.
As soon as you walk through the door we have the teaching room on your left, if you're interested in finding out more about our drum lessons with 'Drumstars' click here. The impressive collection of memorabilia begins with a 'Raleigh Chopper Beano' bike, and continues round the corner to your right where a bold couch sits amongst tones of vintage posters and objects like the 'Baywatch' pinball machine and drum literature, allowing you visitors to browse through endless amounts of magazines, leaflets, flyers, posters and catalogues whilst you wait for your drum lesson, or you could simply switch on the TV. Nowhere goes unattended too in the shop like the painted radiator next to the giant 'M&M' and Steve White's shoe that hangs from the balcony as you walk down the small steps onto the main grounds.
Leading down to the front desk drum and percussion equipment completely surrounds you, our main stage is the centrepiece of the room, this is where the latest products live, alongside the vintage BSA motorcycle, until a new one comes in, the main stage is also where we photograph pieces for the website. After wading your way through our vast selection of items you'll find a small section dedicated to drum sticks where we have a practice table to help you find the perfect ones for you. The walls are covered in signed drum heads by the likes of Oasis' drummer Alan White, and our neon wall light we had custom made with the motto 'Live Breathe Love Drums' greets you at the entrance.
Upstairs accommodates the pre-loved items, electronic drum kits and even has its own mini main stages to showcase our buyer's favourite items. Here at Drum Shop we are popular for our vintage kits such as our Ludwig kits, check out our collection here. From upstairs you can see the whole shop from a bird's-eye-view allowing you to find all our hidden gems.
