Istanbul Mehmet aren't a brand to shy away from a challenge and they have certainly rose to the occasion when it comes to the Tony Williams Tribute series of cymbals. Istanbul Mehmet have taken the very cymbals legendary drummer and musician Tony Williams used during the Miles Davis Quintet era and have faithfully recreated them for you guys, the current and next generation of drummers, with a subtle nod to the legends of yesterday! For those of you who don't know, Tony Williams was a notable musician who struck fame at just 17 years old, when he was invited into the fold that was the Miles Davis Quintet; an American jazz band that had incredible longevity on the jazz scene. A true artisan, Tony spent his life dedicating his time to the craft, drumming for fun, drumming for a living and drumming to pass his knowledge on, simply an iconic name in the drumming industry then and now.
The Tony Williams Tribute Range and in turn the Istanbul Mehmet 18" Tony Williams Tribute Crash has been created with undisputed longevity in mind. With a B20 bronze base and hand hammered to perfection, every detail has been considered. This range of cymbals is as close to the real thing as you will ever get. Tony's wife, Colleen lovingly carried these cymbals all the way to Turkey, where the genius team that is Istanbul Mehmet, meticulously weighed, measured and recorded every detail. The crash cymbal itself is one of very few cymbals you will ever come across that sounds near as damn it to the actual cymbal, a cymbal which was the height of cool over 50 years ago! If that in itself doesn't intrigue you, then the dynamics of this crash cymbal certainly will!
The crash is a commanding cymbal which has significant underlying vintage feel, this in turn generates a lively tone, a full sustain and a wash capable of sensitivity when needed. It has an intentional crack in the body and a smaller crack towards the edge, however this does not create any discernible buzz or noise. Although the crack in the body does accelerate the decay of the crash. These sonic characteristics have a combination of additional hammering and specific lathing. Not only that the cymbals generate a competitive, comfortable stick response, true of all cymbals created with such mastery as these.
